Closing an Account & Deleting Data

How to close a family or instructor account from the website or the app, what is deleted, and what is kept.

Last updated November 3, 2026

Who this is for

This page explains how to close an Odysseus Lyceum account, from the website or from the Odysseus Lyceum app for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Android, and what happens to the information we hold once you do. The steps are the same on every device, because the account lives with us and not on the device.

Closing a family account

Sign in as the primary guardian, open Family Settings, and choose Close the family account. Type CLOSE, enter your password, and confirm. Only the primary guardian can do this.

Closing the account ends every active enrollment under the Refund Policy and starts a ninety-day waiting period. If you change your mind, write to us before the ninety days end and we will cancel the closure with everything intact. When the ninety days end, the deletion described below happens on its own.

If you cannot sign in, write to info@odysseuslyceum.org from the email address on the account with "Close my account" in the subject. We will confirm your identity and then do the same thing on your behalf.

Removing one child, or part of your data, without closing the account

From Family Settings, a child can be removed from the family once their enrollments have ended: the profile is deactivated, the child is signed out of every device, and their class alerts stop. You can also remove your own photo or a child’s photo, delete saved addresses, and withdraw a review you have written, each from the same settings.

To have anything else deleted, write to us. We answer within the time the law allows.

Closing an instructor account

From your Lyceum settings choose Close this account, or write to instructors@odysseuslyceum.org. Your profile and photo come down and you are removed from every class. Your name stays on the records of classes you taught, because families are owed a true record of who taught them, and tax and payout records are kept for as long as the law requires.

What is deleted

When a family account closes and the ninety days have passed, each child’s profile is deactivated for good: the child’s name is replaced, and their email address, photo, interests and preferences are erased. The username can no longer be used to sign in, and the family account can no longer be signed in to or reopened. Devices registered for class alerts are forgotten when their owner is signed out.

What is kept, and for how long

Academic records (which classes were taken, attendance, grades where a class was graded) are kept for seven years after the student’s last class so that a transcript can be produced later. Ask us and we will delete them sooner.

The guardians’ names and contact details are kept with the family’s receipts, refunds, gift card and tax records for as long as financial records must be kept by law, generally seven years. Messages and board posts stay in the record of the class they were written in, shown under the replaced name. Safety reports and their supporting records are kept for as long as safety records must be kept. Class recordings follow the Recording & Media Policy and are deleted ninety days after the final meeting of the class regardless of whether an account is open. Technical logs are kept for one year.
