How consent works
Children do not create accounts. A parent or legal guardian creates the account, adds each child as a profile, confirms they are that child’s parent or guardian, and accepts this policy. We verify the account holder’s identity. That sequence is how we obtain the verifiable parental consent required by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act before we collect any information from a child under thirteen.
If we learn that we have collected information from a child without that consent, we delete it.
What we collect from children
First name, age, grade, and time zone, entered by the parent. A username and password, set by the parent. Attendance, assignments, grades where a class is graded, messages and board posts within the platform, and audio and video during a live class as described in the Recording & Media Policy.
We collect no more than is reasonably necessary for the child to take part in a class, and we do not condition participation on disclosing more than that.
What we do not do
We do not show advertising to children, behavioral or otherwise. We do not sell children’s information. We do not allow a child to make their profile, their messages, or their work public. We do not publish student video. We do not let an adult instructor contact a child privately.
What parents can do
Read everything involving your child. Export the whole record as a verified PDF. Correct any detail. Delete a child profile, which removes it from the platform and starts deletion of its data, subject to the academic-record retention described in the Privacy Policy, which you may also waive. Withdraw consent at any time by deleting the profile.
Service providers
Children’s information is processed by the providers who host the platform, run live video, send email, and screen written and uploaded content for safety on our behalf, under contracts that require them to keep it confidential and secure and to use it only for us. A current list is available on request.
What a child writes to another person and what a child uploads is screened automatically before anyone else sees it (see the Privacy Policy, “Who can see it”). That screening exists to protect children and is part of the service a parent consents to when creating a child profile; it is not used to profile a child, to advertise, or for any purpose other than safety.
