About

A nonprofit that teaches

Odysseus Lyceum is a nonprofit organization offering live online classes to students and families. We are not a school, and we are not trying to be one. Our catalog is distinctive. Our standards are simply high.

Mission

Ideas worth inheriting

We exist so that a family can give its children access to the ideas, books, teachers and intellectual inheritance that family believes are worth handing down, taught live, with real rigor, by people who know the material.

The Lyceum began with the subjects it has a genuine reason to teach: conservative thought, Western civilization, the American founding, great books, economics, logic and rhetoric, art and character. It is expanding toward the full range of a family’s supplementary education (mathematics, science, coding, languages, music, writing and test prep) as the student body grows.

We are careful about what we are. Odysseus Lyceum is a nonprofit organization, not a school. We enroll no one in a course of study, award no diploma, and hold no accreditation. A family takes one class at a time and fits it around whatever they are already doing.

Being a nonprofit is also why the money works the way it does. Tuition pays instructors. Curriculum development and need-based assistance are funded by donations. Nobody takes a profit out of it, which is why a class costs six to eight dollars and why the assistance budget exists at all.

And we are a teaching organization, not a political one. Candidate campaigning, electioneering, campaign fundraising and political organizing are prohibited in our classes, in our policies, and in our copy.
