Community Standards

What is expected of everyone in a Lyceum classroom, board or club.

Last updated November 2, 2026

Who this applies to

Every person who uses the Lyceum: guardians, students, instructors, and staff, in every classroom, board, club, and message.

The standards

Argue with ideas, not people. Disagreement is the point of most of what we teach; contempt is not. Criticism of a position is welcome; mockery of a classmate is not.

Be honest. Represent what others have said fairly. Distinguish a claim from an argument, an argument from evidence, and all three from opinion.

Keep children safe. No adult contacts a minor privately, anywhere, for any reason. No one asks a student for personal information beyond what the class requires.

No campaigning. Candidate campaigning, electioneering, campaign fundraising, and political organizing are prohibited everywhere on the Lyceum.

No harassment, threats, slurs, sexual content, or content that is unlawful or that would be unsuitable for the youngest student who could see it.

Enforcement

Reports go to a person under the Safety & Reporting policy. Consequences range from a word in private to removal from the platform, and for anything involving the safety of a child they begin at removal. Every action is logged, and the guardian of any student involved is told.

Automated screening comes first. Everything written to another person, and every picture or file others could see, is checked by a classifier before delivery. Flagged text is not sent and the writer is told at once; a flagged picture or file is held out of sight. The classifier is sometimes wrong. Being flagged is not a finding and carries no consequence by itself; a person looks at every flag, and only a person can take any further step or tell a family. If something you wrote was held and you believe it was harmless, reword it, or write to us.

Odysseus Lyceum does not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, race, national origin, disability, religion, or any other characteristic protected by law.
