Safety & Reporting

How to report a concern about a child, an instructor, or a message, and what happens next.

Last updated November 2, 2026

If a child is in immediate danger

Call 911 or your local emergency number first. Then tell us.

How to report

Use the Report button on any message, board post, recording, or instructor page; it goes straight to the safety team with the context attached. Or write to info@odysseuslyceum.org with "Safety" in the subject, or call (432) 242-6397. You may report anonymously, though we can do more if we can ask you questions.

What happens next

A person reads every report within one business day, and reports involving the safety of a child within hours. We preserve the relevant recordings and messages. Where a report concerns an instructor, the instructor is suspended from meeting students while we review. The guardians of any student involved are told. You hear back from us with what we found and what we did, except where the law prevents it.

Reports raised by our automated screening are handled the same way, with one difference: because the screening is sometimes wrong, no family is contacted about an automated flag until a person has looked at it and decided there is something to say. Most flags are cleared quietly. When a person does write to a family, the note is written by that person, says plainly what was found, and arrives in the app and by email.

Mandatory reporting

Our staff and instructors are trained in mandatory reporting. Where we have reason to believe a child has been abused or neglected, we report to the appropriate authorities as the law requires, whether or not the concern arose on the platform.

No retaliation

No one is penalized for making a report in good faith. Retaliation against a student, family, or instructor for reporting is itself grounds for removal.
