Recording & Media Policy

Consent, retention, access, and the deliberately narrow defaults we apply to minors.

Last updated October 27, 2026

Every class is recorded

Each live meeting is recorded for two reasons: so that an enrolled student who misses a week can catch up, and so that the Lyceum can review what happened in any class if a concern is raised. Recording is a backup; attendance records always show the difference between attending live and watching a recording.

Consent

Guardians consent to recording for each child when they enroll. Instructors consent when they join the faculty. Because recording-consent law varies by state and the people recorded are mostly minors, our defaults are deliberately narrow: a guardian may ask that their child’s camera be off in recordings, and the request is honored.

Who can watch

Enrolled families of that class, inside the platform, for the retention window. Lyceum staff conducting a safety review, under logged access. No one else. Instructors cannot download recordings. Recordings are never published outside the platform, and student video is never published anywhere.

Retention

Recordings are available to enrolled families for ninety days after the final meeting of the class, then deleted. A recording that is the subject of a safety report is preserved until the report is resolved and for one year after. Guardians may ask us to delete a recording involving their child sooner; where another family’s child is also in it, we remove the requesting child’s audio and video rather than the whole recording.

Catalog media

Short excerpts of an instructor teaching may be used to describe a class in the catalog, with the instructor’s permission and never showing a student.
