About

James has taught American history to public-school juniors, homeschool co-ops, and adult evening classes, and says the homeschoolers ask the hardest questions. He runs the Lyceum’s Federalist and Anti-Federalist seminar.

Teaching philosophy

“History is an argument about evidence. I hand students the documents, make them notice what is missing, and let the interpretations fight it out in the open where everyone can see the reasoning.”
