About

Thomas came to teaching from small-business lending, where he watched a lot of good ideas fail for reasons no one had explained to their founders. He teaches price theory with a whiteboard and a genuine relish for the objections.

Teaching philosophy

“Economics is not a set of conclusions, it is a way of noticing tradeoffs. I want a student to leave able to state the case for markets and the strongest case against them, and to know which parts of the disagreement are empirical.”
