Giving

Give a child a class

Every wish on this page is a real child who asked for a class, with a guardian’s blessing. Each family decides how much to share. Gifts to the pool reach the wishes closest to done first.

The wish pool

Where things stand

A gift to the pool is spent on the wishes closest to done, then on families with verified need, then on those who have waited longest. Nothing sits idle.

Real children, real classes

Closest to done first. Each wish is priced at what that child’s family would actually pay, paid all at once, and every one was approved by a guardian before it appeared here.

      Sponsor a whole class

Pay for seats, lower the price, or add aid

Pay for whole seats, take money off every seat, or add to a class’s financial aid. Open any class to choose; the instructor is paid in full either way.

No class is sponsored yet. Open any class in the catalog and choose “Help pay for it” to be the first.

        How giving works

        Every dollar is accounted for

The rules are few and they do not bend.

        Teachers are paid in full
A seat paid with gifts pays the instructor exactly as if the family had paid. The Lyceum keeps its usual 30% only when a gift pays for a seat, which covers the platform, safety checks and card fees.
        Only ever for classes
Gifts can’t be withdrawn or turned into cash. They pay tuition and nothing else.
        Nothing is lost
A class sponsorship stays with that class through every section. If the class is retired, it follows the successor class; if nothing is scheduled for sixty days, the remainder moves to the general aid fund. A wish gift that overflows goes to the pool. Donors are told whenever their gift moves.
        Children stay private
Donors can’t contact a child. Families may send a thank-you, which the Lyceum reads before passing it on.
        A public thank-you
Every gift goes in the record of giving, under your name or as Anonymous, with the amount only if you choose. Gifts to a privately shared wish stay off it.
        Gifts are final
Once given, a gift can’t be refunded, so a child’s seat is never taken back.

Odysseus Lyceum has applied for recognition as a 501(c)(3) public charity. Once granted, gifts to the pool and to whole classes will be tax-deductible; a gift to one child generally is not.

        Give today

One gift to the pool finishes somebody’s wish.

Fifty dollars is a week of class for a child whose family said yes but could not say when. The receipt and the thank-you note both come to you.
